English Editing for International Teams

Clearer English for teams who already know what they want to say

Even when the thinking is clear and the facts are right, making the English carry that meaning naturally and professionally is harder than it sounds.

I provide English editing services for international businesses, global teams and non-native English speakers who need their written material to read fluently in English without losing accuracy, detail or authority.

This is not copywriting from scratch. It is careful business English editing for drafts that already contain the right thinking or information, but need cleaner grammar, smoother phrasing, clearer sentence flow and a more natural English tone.

When the meaning matters, the English needs to work

Writing in a second or third language is difficult, especially when the subject is technical, commercial or detailed.

A draft may be accurate, but still feel slightly heavy. It may use the right terminology, but not sound quite natural. It may explain the facts, but make the reader work harder than they should.

Good editing helps the reader concentrate on what you mean, not on the effort behind the wording.

What I edit

I edit English-language business, marketing and technical content for international teams.

I’ve edited everything from power tool website copy and white papers on data centres, right through to brochures for firestopping products and hardware designed for nuclear power stations.

In short, if it’s aimed at a business audience that uses English as its working language, I can help.

Some drafts just need light polishing. Others need a closer edit for clarity, fluency, structure and tone. The aim is always the same: to make the English sound clear, natural and professional.

Who this helps

This service is for people and teams who need polished English, but do not necessarily need a copywriter to create the message from the beginning.

This includes international marketing or technical teams preparing material for English-speaking markets, an agency working with overseas clients, or a non-native English speaker putting together an important document. It is also useful for UK teams editing material supplied by colleagues abroad.

I have experience editing English-language material for international business audiences, including work for a major global company with more than 34,000 employees and operations in more than 120 countries.

That kind of work needs judgement as well as technical skill. The draft may have been written by someone who understands the subject extremely well. My job is to elevate the writer’s voice, not flatten the content. It is to help the English do justice to the expertise behind it.

My competent French and reasonable reading knowledge of German can also help when editing English written by European teams. This is not a translation service, but it does mean I can often recognise some of the phrasing, rhythms and assumptions behind English written by French- or German-speaking colleagues.

How the editing process works

You send me the draft and explain what the piece is for. It helps to know who will read it, where it will appear, whether it needs to follow a house style, and whether there are any terms or claims that must not be changed.

I then edit the copy with the right level of intervention. For some documents, that may mean a careful proofread and polish. For others, it may mean a deeper edit to improve fluency, remove ambiguity and make the writing easier to follow.

Where useful, I can leave comments explaining suggested changes or querying anything that may need your team’s attention. The result is cleaner, more natural English that still sounds like it belongs to your business.

Practical questions

A few things people ask

A place for the questions that often come up before a first conversation.

Do you offer ESL editing services?

Yes. I edit English written by people who use English as a second or additional language. I usually describe this as English editing for international teams, because the work is often for professional, technical or business audiences rather than academic ESL students.

Is this the same as proofreading?

Not quite. Proofreading usually checks the final text for errors before publication. This work can include proofreading, but it often goes further: improving clarity, fluency, sentence flow, tone and readability while keeping the original meaning intact.

Can you edit technical or specialist material?

Yes, provided the subject matter is explained in the draft or supported by suitable source material. I am used to working with specialist content where accuracy matters. I work from the draft and any supporting material you provide. Although I am not the technical expert, I help the English express the expertise more clearly.

Can you work with British English or US English?

Yes. I often work in US English as this is what most global companies prefer. But if you prefer British English, that’s fine with me. The important thing is to agree on the version of English before the work begins.

Can you edit documents written by several people?

Yes. Multi-author documents are common in international businesses. I can help make the English more consistent across sections, especially where different contributors have used different levels of formality, terminology or sentence style.

Can you work under an NDA?

Yes. I often work with confidential business material and am happy to use a non-disclosure agreement where needed. If the copy involves sensitive commercial, technical or internal information, we can agree the right way to handle it before work begins.
